Your license is good for 90 days from the issue date. If the ceremony doesn't happen in 90 days, the license expires and you must start the process over. Plan your wedding to fall after the three-day wait and before the 90-day expiration. Most couples apply one to two weeks before the ceremony to stay comfortable on both ends.

Conroe Marriage License Records

After the ceremony, the officiant signs the license and returns it to the Montgomery County Clerk within 30 days. The clerk records the marriage and sends the data to the Texas Department of State Health Services. DSHS maintains a statewide marriage index. Certified verification letters from DSHS cost $20 and serve as legal proof of marriage.

Certified copies of your marriage record are available from the Montgomery County Clerk for about $21. You need these to change your name on a driver's license, Social Security card, and passport.
